A modern tale of fortune-hunting in the world of West Texas oil rigs
See the most popular movies and TV shows by writer/director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, as rated by users. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, acts as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Generally speaking, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize deals with landowners who hold the rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.
Quoted on CBS News Sunday morning: Episode 4424 (2022)
They essentially control the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (male camp), assemble backhoes, and drill their own wells, especially in remote locations. They are also the repairmen, troubleshooters, and facilitators.
A great start to two episodes!
Billy Bob Thornton (Tommy Norris) is absolutely brilliant in the lead role. I noticed Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris) when he was on Justified. Ali Larter (Angela Norris) as Tommy’s ex-wife and Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris), Tommy’s daughter, are insufferable and I’m already hoping for the worst.
Big Green: Good!
Things are happening to them! The character of Jon Hamm (Monty Miller), the owner of the company and Tommy’s boss, may reflect, I hope, unrealized fears of this developing series. In short, I fear that creator/writer Taylor Sheridan may adopt a bumper sticker mentality and reduce the series to: Big Oil: Bad!
