Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite to face a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike any they’ve faced before. The filmmakers of the previous films have cited both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2001) and the solo game Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) as inspiration. The film also draws on narrative elements from the Saturday morning animated television series Sonic the Hedgehog (1993). But where you found family and friends, Shadow found only pain and loss. Spoiler: There’s a scene in the end credits: Sonic arrives at a New York state park and is confronted by an army of metal Sonic robots, but is saved by Amy Rose. Best writing, best characterization, great humor, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow is a treat. This film is a departure from the first 2, most obviously in the tone of the film, this film is a soul adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2 and they handled it better than I thought they would. Shadow’s past is beautifully portrayed as haunting, not to mention his immaculate CGI model, I was very impressed with how he looked. Jim Carrey was hilarious as usual, an absolute must have in our franchise, he was hilariously amazing as both Ivo and Gerald. Ben Schwartz, Colleen, and; Idris all shined as ever. As a huge Sonic fan, this film exceeded my expectations, what a feeling it is to be a Sonic fan! One of the best pieces in Sonics history.9/10.
